Guess who showed up to play Wednesday night at the Howard Pulley Summer League in Eagan?

Why, none other than Michael Beasley, of course.

After playing with his new Timberwolves teammates at Target Center this week, Beasley came out to play in the summer league that most nights consists of college players, including Gophers, and sometimes pro players who spend their winters working in Europe.

According to my colleague and the Strib's college-hoops writer Myron Medcalf, Beasley ran the point and was firing up 3s for a team called Pat Madison Magic. He played about 30 of the 40 minutes, maybe more and appeared to cruise at about 30 percent most of the time before he got serious late in the game while leading his team back from a big deficit.

A guy from Hamline called Carl Hipp had the job defending him, at least for a while.

Beasley hit a jumper to tie the game at 107 in the final two seconds, but the Madison Magic lost by a bucket.

Myron tweeted that one of Beasley's tip dunks was "sick."

Why was Beasley -- in town for a few days to play pickup ball with new teammates -- there against the college kids?

The Pulley League's organizer told Myron that Beasley just called him up and said he wanted to run.

Afterward, Myron caught up with Beasley and here's what he had to say on a few different topics.

On the forthcoming, expected lockout: "Everybody's worried about it. A lockout means the money stops, your lifestyle stops. But I feel like we're coming closer every day, regardless of what the media say, what the public may see us. The owners and the players are getting closer.

"How close? I don't know for sure because I'm not a person to go to every meeting, but I feel good about the situation."

On whether there's room for he, Wes Johnson and newly drafted Derrick Williams to all play together: "We're good. We've been in the gym all week together. Those guys are great. They play hard. They work hard. Rubio makes the game easy. You're just running and you get easy layups. It's fun. It's simple. It's easy. It's winning basketball."

When asked if Rubio is going to be a difference maker: "Definitely, definitely. It's night-and-day difference. We just run more with him. It makes the game fun. Everybody loves to be running and jumping and dunking. He just makes you want to play like that."

On whether he's concerned about the unresolved coaching situation: "Not at all, not at all. Like I said earlier this season, it's a business. If coaching change, it change. If it don't, it don't. I'm happy either way. I've said before, I love Kurt. I love his style of play. I love his work ethic. But if he has to go, life goes on."
