Before the USHL draft on Monday, Sioux Falls traded the rights to Mario Lucia to Des Moines for another player.

The S.F. Stampede had four future Gophers on its roster this season. Not sure why the team swapped Lucia, a fourth-round pick of theirs a year ago.

In exchange for Lucia, the Stampede got forward Justin Selman who had eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points this past season for the Buccaneers. The New Jersey native has committed to Michigan.

Lucia, expected to be a second round pick in the NHL entry draft next month, had 30 goals and 24 assists for 54 points in 27 games as a junior forward at Wayzata High School this past season.

The Trojans lost to Eden Prairie, the eventual Class 2A state champion, in a section final.

Lucia, the younger son of Gophers coach Don Lucia, is expected to play in the USHL in the 2011-12 season rather than return to Wayzata as a senior.

“We’re giving up a top-two line center,” Des Moines coach Regg Simon said of Selman. “We felt we had some depth down the middle, with four returning centers.

"[Lucia's] hockey sense is off the charts. He’s very, very skilled. He’s got good speed and a good nose around the net. Plus, being the son of a coach, can you imagine how many hours of film he’s watched?"

Lucia is 6-2, 185 pounds. He has not committed to a college yet. One of the last times he was quoted about his college choices, he said he had his choices narrowed down to the Gophers. Notre Dame and Colorado College,

The Bucs tryout camp for its free agents and draft picks will be June 16-19 at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, Iowa. Lucia will turn 18 on Aug. 25.
