Jerry Zgoda missed the entire Kevin Garnett era, but he's back covering the Timberwolves after working the beat for their first four seasons two decades ago. In between, he covered a bit of everything: Gopher men's and women's basketball and NCAA athletics, golf, outdoor recreation, sports media and a little Vikings and Twins.

Love, Milicic both will travel with team

The good news is the Timberwolves feel both Kevin Love and Darko Milicic are close enough to being available that both  will accompany the team on its upcoming two-game road trip.

The bad news, at least in Love's case? The groin strain is not getting better and the odds keep getting better that we might have seen the last of the Wolves' power forward this season. Love said he hasn't seen much improvement in his injury. Neither he nor Milicic (ankle) did any practicing today. Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said he would leave the decision up to Love and the medical staff. Both Love and Milicic are listed as doubtful.

Love said if he couldn't play in Denver, he might lean towards not playing again, being that there would be only two games left. And then he said he doesn't think he'll play in Denver: "I don't think, as of right now, I could play," he said. "I don't think I'll play (Saturday. Unless something happens miraculously, it heals up, I won't be playing tomorrow."

So, given that, Love has perhaps put the final touches on a third season that has him in the running to be the NBA's most improved player. I'll be writing about his take on that for tomorrow's paper.

Meanwhile, assistant coach Reggie Theus said he had a 5 1/2-hour interview for the vacant head job at UNLV, and he said it went well. Theus called it a dream job, and the only one he really wanted when he first got into coaching.

Since then his horizons have broadened. Theus said he likes his current job, would still like to be a head coach in the NBA one day. If he gets the offer from UNLV? "If it's offered we'll talk about it, for sure," Theus said. "It still has to be a good deal, a good job. I'm looking forward to having that conversation."

That's about it for now. Jerry will be with the team on the road. Have a good weekend.
