The Huntdown
Name: Dan Mandich
Claim to Fame, Minnesota: an enforcer for your Minnesota North Stars hockey programme from 1982 to 1985. Did he fight Al Secord, you ask? He did, he did. He also fought other people. Quite a bit, as it turns out. Notable names on his résumé: Doug Risebrough, Clark Gillies, Dave Christian, and the apparently-not-a-made-up-name Todd Hooey.
Claim to Fame, Everywhere Else: As of 2001, the Ohio State product had the most penalty minutes in NCAA history at 617. Before you ask, Dave Hakstol didn’t even come close, but clicking that link will remind you that the current Flickertail head coach played for the short-lived Minnesota Moose.
Where He Is Now: is a financial advisor in the western suburbs. He also coaches girls’ hockey in Bloomington.

Glorious Randomness I: Ohio State is part of the brand new Big Ten hockey conference that will begin play in 2013. There are six teams. Nebraska is joining the Big Ten for football, basketball, volleyball and the like this fall, giving those conferences 12 teams. Question: why does the Big Ten hate math?
Glorious Randomness II: the flickertail, or Richardson’s ground squirrel, is sometimes referred to as a … gopher. Did I just blow your mind?
