Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could keep lies from conquering the minds of the weak. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Jon Marthaler bakes up a batch of delicious links just for you. Other times, you can find him here and here. Jon?

Happy autumn! The air is crisp, the wind is blowing - it just feels perfectly like fall out there today, and I for one couldn't be happier. And as for sports, football is in full swing now, baseball is nearing the playoffs, hockey is playing exhibition games, basketball is starting training camp - it's all happening! With no time to waste, then, let's get right on with the links:

*Tremendous news for soccer fans in the USA: ESPN has finally given up on JP Dellacamera, and has hired the wonderful Ian Darke to be the network's lead soccer commentator. You may remember Darke as the voice of this goal; if you don't remember Dellacamera, just have someone shout "DEFLECTED!" in your ear for ninety minutes, and you'll get the idea. Our hearty kudos to ESPN for making all our soccer-watching lives better.

*In other soccer news: the USA World Cup bid committee has their plan all figured out. Step 1: Make bid. Step 2: Morgan Freeman. Step 3: World Cup!

*I love it when Parker Hageman does a video breakdown. This week: evidence of why Danny Valencia is now driving the ball. Good stuff.

*Spencer Hall at EDSBS covers the week that was in college football - in graph form. Watch the language, as always with Hall, but prepare to laugh.

*And finally: What has happened to NASCAR? It was once set to become the next great sport in America, second only to football, and now its TV ratings are heading south every week. There must be an explanation, but it escapes me. (Well, I find NASCAR boring and unwatchable, but that doesn't mean anything, as my opinions are notoriously wrong. There must be something else. Paging Clarence Swamptown... can you help?)

That's enough for this week; here's hoping you've got something outdoors planned for this glorious fall day. According to the DNR, it's bear hunting season, which sounds awesome. If you have time today, I suggest you go bear hunting. Happy autumn!
