Katie McGregor of St. Louis Park won the women's division of the USA 25K Championships on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

It is the second time she has won the 25K national championship. McGregor, who runs for Team USA Minnesota, finished with a time of 1 hour, 26 minutes, 24 seconds.

Two international women were first and second in the Fifth Third River Bank Run 25K (the winning time was 1:23:46), with McGregor coming in third overall and first among Americans.

"It's always nice to get another national championship since they're not easy to come by," said McGregor, a six-time national champion. "... Once I knew I wouldn't win the race overall I just wanted to win the national championship.''

U baseball team rallies past Michigan

Trip Schultz's two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Gophers baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Michigan at the Metrodome.

The Gophers trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the ninth. Nick O'Shea's RBI single with one out pulled the Gophers within 4-3. Schultz's hit came on a 3-2 count.

The victory, coupled with Northwestern's 11-4 victory over Indiana, left a two-way tie for first place between the Gophers (22-26, 10-7 Big Ten) and Northwestern (21-26, 10-7).

Etc.

• Gophers junior Teresa Puga shot an even-par 71 in Saturday's third round of the NCAA West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif. Puga improved from a tie for 28th to a tie for 12th but missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships by two strokes.

• Katie Brown and Heidi Daumen each drove in two runs as visiting Iowa defeated the Gophers softball team 8-0. Abby Rehberger had two hits for the Gophers (15-34, 1-14 Big Ten), whose losing streak grew to 14 games.

• Rocco Placentino scored twice in the final 11 minutes to lift the Montreal Impact to a 2-1 victory over the NSC Minnesota Stars in Montreal. Brian Cvilikas scored in the 78th minute to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.

• St. Thomas earned at least a share of its eighth consecutive MIAC baseball title with a doubleheader sweep of St. Olaf in Northfield. The Tommies (29-6, 15-5 MIAC) will win the title outright unless second-place Concordia of Moorhead (13-5) sweeps Bethel on Sunday. In the first game, the Tommies Matt Schuld pitched six shutout innings and collected an MIAC-record 28th career victory.
