Preview: The Gophers women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the Big Ten by the league's coaches and fourth by the media. Minnesota is coming off a year that ended with a loss to Texas A&M in the second round of the NCAA tournament. This year's Gophers were upset in an exhibition game by Winona State on Nov. 4. Four of the team's top five scorers return. Lamar is one of the top schools in the Southland Conference. It has three of its top four scorers from last season's team.
Key players: Ashley Ellis-Milan earned All-Big Ten third team honors after averaging 11.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Gophers. Lamar's Jenna Plumley, a transfer from Oklahoma, averaged 7.3 points, 3.3 assists and a pair of steals for the Sooners as a sophomore.
Numbers: Lamar grabbed 38.6 rebounds per game last season. Minnesota made 34.1 percent of its three-point attempts last year.
