American swimmers Peter Marshall, Jessica Hardy set world records at short-course meet

STOCKHOLM - Americans Peter Marshall and Jessica Hardy set world records at the short-course World Cup on Wednesday.

Marshall broke his own world record in the men's 50-meter backstroke in 22.73 seconds Wednesday. He set the previous record of 22.75 in October in Durban, South Africa.

Hardy broke her own world record in the women's 50 breaststroke, finishing in 28.96 in a qualifying heat. She topped her mark of 29.36 set four days ago in Moscow.

Also Wednesday, Liu Zige of China set the seventh world record at the meet. She won the women's 200-meter butterfly in 2 minutes, 2.5 seconds, beating the previous record by Yuko Nakanishi of Japan in 2008.

On Tuesday, Jing Zhao of China twice set records in the women's 50 backstroke. Records were also set by Felicity Galvez of Australia in the 100 butterfly and Kaio Almeida of Brazil in the men's 200 butterfly.
