UMD gets first-round bye; Mankato to face Hillsdale next

Defending NCAA Division II champion Minnesota Duluth was named the top seed and Minnesota State Mankato the third seed for the NCAA Division II Super Region III football playoffs.

Minnesota Duluth, the NSIC regular-season champion, will have a first-round bye for the playoffs, which begin Saturday. In the second round on Nov. 21, the Bulldogs (10-1) will play the winner of the first-round matchup between fourth-seeded Nebraska-Kearney (10-1) and fifth-seeded Saginaw Valley State (9-2).

Minnesota State Mankato (10-1) will play host to sixth-seeded Hillsdale (9-2) at noon Saturday.

The Hillsdale-MSU Mankato winner will advance to play second-seeded Grand Valley State (10-1), which received a first-round bye, in a second-round game on Nov. 21.
