Standout California tailback Jahvid Best suffered a concussion and was carted off the field Saturday night and taken to the emergency room after he landed on the back of his head when he leapt more than 5 feet in the air and flipped over an Oregon State defender to score a touchdown.
Best had movement in all of his extremities, Cal spokesman Herb Benenson said, adding that more tests were being done before a final diagnosis would be announced.
Best's helmet came off on impact. He vaulted into the air over safety Cameron Collins on the 7-yard run. Best's jersey was removed and he was wearing an oxygen mask when carted out of the stadium.
Air Force routs ArmyHost Air Force (6-4) scored on four of its five second-half possessions to turn a close contest into a 35-7 victory over Army (3-6).
Army's loss gave the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy to Navy for the seventh year in a row.
Before the game, the Air Force Academy held a moment of silence in honor of the shooting victims at Fort Hood. The flags on the campus also were lowered to half mast.
Area Division ILance Caldwell returned an interception 75 yards for a score as Southern Illinois beat South Dakota State 34-15 to clinch at least a share of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Salukis (8-1,7-0 MVC) and Jackrabbits (7-2,6-1) entered tied atop the standings. SDSU visits the Gophers next week.
• Chris Ganious ran for 170 of South Dakota's 334 rushing yards and two TDs as the host Coyotes (4-5, 1-2 Great West) defeated Southern Utah (4-5, 2-2) 45-21.
• Jake Landry threw for 206 yards and two TDs and host North Dakota (5-4) survived a scare from an NAIA school, beating Southern Oregon (2-7) 30-24.
