Go-go-goodbye: Your reaction to the trade

Reaction to the Twins' trade of Carlos Gomez to the Brewers for shortstop J.J. Hardy:

viceroy712: I'm surprised the Twins even pulled it off. J.J. Hardy was on my wish list of players the Twins should go after. Yes 2009 was a down year for him but this player does have a very positive up side. He will come in here next season and have a great year! Thanks Bill Smith, this was a good trade!

chucktraylor: Again the Twins management has made a shrewd move. Gomez may eventually grow up and become the player his potential suggests. Hardy, though, is proven and with a change of scenery will be a shortstop on par with what Jason Bartlett has become in Tampa.

powerslave77: First instinct is a fleecing in favor of the Twins. I would have thought Hardy would command a lot more than Gomez straight up. He just doesn't look like he will ever get it all together, and a Hardy rebound would be a lot of production at SS.

Bruno009: Smith's moves have looked pretty good from half-way mark of last year to now. Let's hope this is a trend.

bgraham: Nice to see the Twins have officially given up on three of the four players we received for Johan Santana.

ptps2: Since moving from the Twin Cities down to the Milwaukee area a few years ago, I have watched Hardy play many games for the Brewers. ... Hardy will add to the Twins' offense and give them one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball as well as the best arm. Nice job, Twins!

Mickster: I did like the excitement Gomez brought, but you have to give to get. Hardy can be a solid bat in the lineup, and we have 4th outfielders all over the minors.

Royals: Not sure why you trade a young athlete away who is still learning the game. I like what Orlando Cabrera brought to the team.

Slundber: I hope the Brewers are able to make Gomez an everyday player. I believe that's all he ever needed to develop into a decent hitter, and he wasn't gonna get that opportunity with the Twins. It was pretty obvious when Morneau got hurt and Cuddyer moved to first base. The Twins chose to play the slow-footed Kubel in the outfield rather than give the job to Gomez. Best wishes for the future, Carlos!

koskie4life: This is what the Twins have needed to do in the past -- swap a strength (OF) for a weakness (3B/SS/2B). Let's hope that this is the start of their moves, and not the end!
