Notre Dame's offense got one of its key players back with the return of Michael Floyd.
The 6-3, 220-pound sophomore receiver from Cretin-Derham Hall was second in the nation in receiving yards at 160 yards a game when he broke his left collarbone trying to make a catch against Michigan State on Sept. 19.
Floyd, who had a plate placed on the bone the next day, was "hooting and hollering" after receiving the news Monday night that he was cleared to play Saturday against Navy, coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday.
Doctors, including noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, said Floyd's collarbone had healed enough to play.
"I kind of took it out to the practice field today, kind of let the energy out," Floyd said. "It has been inside of me for a while. Right now, I feel I'm ready to go."
• Tyler Sheehan's 18-yard touchdown pass to Freddie Barnes with 39 seconds left gave Bowling Green (4-5, 3-2 Mid-American) a 30-29 victory over Buffalo (3-6, 1-4) in Amherst, N.Y.
• Sophomore tailback Darrell Scott is leaving the Colorado program for "assorted personal reasons" according to coach Dan Hawkins.
• Indiana coach Bill Lynch has contacted Big Ten officials about a touchdown that was overturned on replay during Saturday's loss at Iowa. On the play, the official ruled that Indiana receiver Terrance Turner had a foot down in bounds. The replay review reversed the call.
• Florida State defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews is retiring after 26 years as one of Bobby Bowden's assistants.
Zenyatta was made the early 5-2 favorite in a field of 13 for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, where the 5-year-old will race against the boys for the first time. Zenyatta will break from the No. 4 post in Saturday's 1¼-mile race at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.
She had also been pre-entered in Friday's Ladies' Classic, which she won last year. Zenyatta (13-0) will be the fourth female to run in the Classic. No filly has won in the race's 25-year history.
"If she gets her opportunity to run her race and she runs it like I know she can, we might see something pretty incredible," said Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, who rides Zenyatta.
The field also includes Ireland-bred Rip Van Winkle, the 7-2 second choice, and 9-2 Summer Bird, the Belmont champion. Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird was listed at 12-1.
Connecticut junior guard Maya Moore became the seventh unanimous choice on the Associated Press' preseason All-America team.
Moore was joined on the squad by teammate Tina Charles, Stanford's Jayne Appel, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender and Virginia's Monica Wright.
