Fisher will face Kim in finals

Ross Fisher beat Masters champion Angel Cabrera on the third playoff hole Saturday to set up a World Match Play Championship final against Anthony Kim in Casares, Spain.

Fisher won 1-up after Cabrera needed five shots to reach the green on the final hole. Fisher had sent his second shot from 244 yards within 5 feet of the pin in fading light at the Finca Cortesin golf course. Kim advanced by beating Robert Allenby 5 and 4. Kim, who beat the Australian 5 and 3 at the Presidents Cup, rallied from an early two-hole deficit, pulling away at the 27th hole when he holed an approach from 101 yards.

Poulter falters before rains come

Ian Poulter was 4 over through six holes in the third round of the Singapore Open, dropping the Englishman into a tie for the Singapore Open lead with Thomas Levet and Kodai Ichihara. Poulter, five strokes ahead after completing a second-round 64 in the morning, faltered in the afternoon to fall to 8 under before thunderstorms stopped play. Levet and Ichihara were both 2 under for the round. Levet completed eight holes, and Ichihara finished seven.

Sindelar withdraws from Champions event

Joey Sindelar withdrew from the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and was taken to a hospital after complaining of dizziness during the third round. Sindelar became dizzy after playing the 204-yard, par-3 fourth hole. He rested in between holes and tried to play the fifth before withdrawing. Medical personnel attended to Sindelar at the Sonoma (Calif.) Golf Club and the 51-year-old player was taken to a hospital for further tests. ... John Cook took a six-stroke lead in a bid for his second Champions Tour victory in three weeks, shooting a 5-under 67 in the third round of the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Russ Cochran (68) was second at 13 under, and Tom Watson (71) and Brad Bryant (69) were 12 under.

Viking Classic cancelled

PGA Tour officials canceled the weather-stricken Viking Classic because of unplayable course conditions in Madison, Miss. There will be no makeup date and players will move on to the final event of the season, the Children's Miracle Network Classic on Nov. 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.

Williams sisters to meet in final

Venus Williams defeated Jelena Jankovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in one semifinal at the Sony Ericsson Championships and Serena Williams won the other when Caroline Wozniacki quit because of an abdominal injury while trailing 6-4, 0-1 in Doha, Qatar. ... Serena Williams withdrew from the U.S. team that will face Italy in the Fed Cup final, deciding she needs to rest after a long season. Vania King replaces Williams on the roster. ... Top-seeded Marin Cilic and Jurgen Melzer won semifinal matches and will play for the BA Tennis Trophy title in Vienna, Austria. Cilic beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 7-6 (4). Melzer, seeded seventh, rallied past Janko Tipsarevic 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. ... Ivan Ljubicic defeated Arnaud Clement 6-2, 6-4 to reach the final of the Lyon Grand Prix, where he'll play wild card Michael Llodra, who beat second-seeded Gilles Simon 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (1). ... Two-time Grand Slam champion Marat Safin lost to qualifier Andriy Stakhovsky 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the St. Petersburg Open semifinals. The Ukrainian will play eighth-seeded Horacio Zeballos, who reached his first tour final by beating Igor Kunitsyn 7-6 (7), 6-3.

AROUND THE HORN

NFL: Washington left tackle Chris Samuels was put on injured reserve Saturday. The Redskins made the expected move of placing six-time Pro Bowl lineman Samuels on injured reserve Saturday.

Boxing: Yohnny Perez floored Joseph Agbeko in the 10th round and won a unanimous decision to take the International Boxing Federation bantamweight title.
