Season synopsis: The Yellow Jackets won their opener over Alcorn State before losing three games in a row — at South Florida, at Pittsburgh and at home against Clemson. But they won six of their next seven games to secure bowl eligibility before losing their regular-season finale, 45-21 at Georgia. With Johnson retiring, Tech is searching for a new coach. One name that has surfaced as a possible replacement is Ken Whisenhunt, a Georgia Tech alum and former Arizona Cardinals head coach who now is the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator.

Snubbed? The Yellow Jackets were passed over by other ACC teams in the bowl selection process, and some players weren't happy about it. "How do we finish FOURTH in the ACC and get the lowest bowl in the ACC!!!! HOW!!!!!'' junior running back Qua Searcy tweeted, before adding, "We're excited to play in Detroit, it's just disappointing to see our hard work is being overlooked.''
