Stretch of schedule features NBA's worst

Wolves update: The Wolves are fattening up on a favorable portion of their schedule with wins over mediocre Eastern Conference opponents in Brooklyn and Chicago. That run continues with a matchup against Cleveland, which the Wolves defeated 131-123 in their home opener Oct. 19. Jimmy Butler shot 10-for-12 and scored 33 points in that game as the Wolves pulled away from the Cavs late. … The Wolves defeated the Bulls on Saturday even though Robert Covington shot 1-for-18 and Andrew Wiggins went 0-for-12. Karl-Anthony Towns helped the Wolves overcome that with 35 points and 22 rebounds. It was Towns' third 30-point game of the season. He had 12 games with 30 or more last season. ... The Wolves recalled Keita Bates-Diop from Iowa. Bates-Diop is averaging 20 points in three games with Iowa.

Cavaliers update: Former Wolves forward Kevin Love won't play on Monday. He is still recovering from toe surgery he had earlier this month. Love could return in January. … Guard George Hill has missed the past eight games because of an injured shoulder and as of Saturday had not been cleared for contact. … The Cavaliers also have a new coach since the teams' first meeting. They fired Tyronn Lue after an 0-6 start to the season and replaced him with Larry Drew, who will coach the team through the end of this season. … It hasn't been pretty on the court for the Cavaliers without LeBron James. They were tied for the second-worst record in the league entering Sunday and had the league's worst defensive rating at 113.9 points per 100 possessions.
