Last update: July 1, 2009 - 7:12 PM

Date attended: Saturday, June 27

Itemized cost of attending: Admission: $5; free parking; concessions: $25. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks, too.

Why someone should attend: Because you like the sun, people, beer, food, fun, laughing, beer and, oh yeah, horse racing and sometimes betting.

Biggest plus: A few thousand weekend funlovers mingling and yelling and cheering.

Biggest drawback: The time (20 minutes or so) between races probably is a buzzkill for action-seekers.

Did you know: On July 4th you get free Hormel hot dogs, there's a hot dog eating contest and a -- yep, you guessed it -- a weiner dog race.
