The Twins lost two players Friday when the Cubs claimed lefthanded pitcher Randy Rosario and the White Sox claimed outfielder Daniel Palka off waivers.

Niko Goodrum, who spent September with the Twins, cleared waivers and was taken off the 40-man roster.

Rosario, 23, pitched in two games for the Twins last season, giving up eight runs in 2â…“ innings. Palka hit .274 with 11 home runs at Class AAA Rochester last season.

The Twins are freeing space on their 40-man roster to add players who would then be protected from next month's Rule 5 draft.

In seven minor league seasons, Rosario was 19-22 with a 3.58 ERA. He had 302 strikeouts and 146 walks in 367 innings.

He pitched 32 games in relief at Class AA Chattanooga last season with a 4.08 ERA, fading badly in the second half of the season.

The Twins called up Rosario on June 1 after his strong minor league start to help a worn-out bullpen. He gave up three runs in two innings to the Angels on June 2 and was rocked for five runs in one-third of an inning against Seattle on June 6 before heading back to Tennessee.

Palka, 26, came to the Twins following the 2015 season in a trade with Arizona for catcher Chris Herrmann. Palka hit 136 home runs in 538 minor league games but struck out 621 times.

Goodrum, 25, had a single and a walk in 18 plate appearances for the Twins. He hit .265 with 13 home runs and 66 RBI at Rochester, playing both the infield and outfield.
