A couple of quick notes before it's time to sleep fast:

WILK DESIGNATED: To make room for the return of Adalberto Mejia, the Twins designated lefthander Adam Wilk for assignment after the game. The Twins have 10 days to trade Wilk or try to get him through waivers and send him to Class AAA Rochester. Wilk was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two outings for the Twins. "We'll see if there is a trade possibility," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "If not, we'll see if we can keep him around."

SANTIAGO FROM THE STRETCH: Hector Santiago decided to pitch from the stretch from the beginning on Friday. He lasted 51/3 innings, but said he had some success with it. Pitching from the stretch allows him to slide step and quick pitch in order to throw timing off. Rays hitters didn't like it at times and cried foul. Santiago explained himself to Tim Beckham at one point. "I know you guys are mad and all that stuff because I'm quick pitching," Santiago said. "Hey, hitting is all about timing and if I can throw their timing off its a plus for me." His big problem has been getting lefties out, and it continued on Friday. Lefties entered the game 13-for-26 against Santiago with three home runs. The three lefties in the Rays lineup - Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison and Kevin Kiermaier - were 3-for-6 on Friday with a homer and two walks.
