Mark Edwards coached at Washington University for 27 years before winning a national title. He didn't wait long to win another.

The Bears won their second consecutive NCAA Division III men's national basketball championship Saturday, beating Richard Stockton 61-52 in Salem, Va.

Tyler Nading had 20 points and eight rebounds for Washington, a school in St. Louis.

George Fox wins women's Division III title

George Fox won its first NCAA Division III women's championship, beating Washington U 60-53 in Holland, Mich., and finishing 32-0.

Baylor advances in NIT

Kevin Rogers and Curtis Jerrells scored 16 points apiece and led Baylor past Virginia Tech 84-66 in the second round of the men's NIT in Blacksburg, Va.

BOXING

Klitschko keeps heavyweight title

Vitali Klitschko retained the WBC heavyweight title by stopping Juan Carlos Gomez in the ninth round in Stuttgart, Germany.

Klitschko twice put down the Germany-based Cuban defector, in the seventh and ninth, before the fight was stopped with 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining in the round.

Klitschko improved his to 37-2 (36 KOs), his last loss coming to Lennox Lewis in June 2003. He was making the first defense of the WBC title he reclaimed last October after a four-year retirement.

TENNIS

Murray beats Federer again

Andy Murray beat Roger Federer for the fourth time in a row, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 to advance to the BNP Paribas Open final in Indian Wells, Calif.

No. 4 Murray, off to a 20-1 start his year, has won six of eight matches overall against No. 2 Federer.

Murray will face the winner of the semifinal between No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 7 Andy Roddick in the final today.

Vera Zvonareva and Ana Ivanovic will meet today for the women's singles title.

SNOWBOARDING

U.S. halfpipe champs crowned

Danny Kass and Torrah Bright recovered after each fell twice and won the halfpipe titles at the U.S. Open Snowboard Championships in Stratton Mountain, Vt.

Kass scored 93.5 on his third and final run and became the first man to win the Open halfpipe five times.

Defending women's champion Bright soared to a 96 to win her third halfpipe crown.

Olympic gold medalist Shaun White pulled out of the event because of a severely sprained left ankle, ending his attempt for a fourth consecutive halfpipe title.

AROUND THE HORN

Biathlon: Ole Einar Bjorndalen won the pursuit in Trondheim, Norway, for a record 88th career World Cup biathlon victory and closed in on a sixth overall title.

Cycling: Sprint standout Mark Cavendish won the Milan-San Remo cycling classic in Italy. Lance Armstrong, riding the first European race in his comeback from retirement, dropped out of contention in a climb shortly before the finish.

Horse racing: Hold Me Back roared to the lead in the stretch and won the $500,000 Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. Hold Me Back is trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Kent Desormeaux.
