MINNEAPOLIS - Freshman center Taylor Matson will miss the rest of the Minnesota Gophers hockey season with a knee injury.
The team says Tuesday that Matson injured the knee in Friday's loss to Michigan. He'll have surgery in the upcoming weeks.
Matson is a native of Mound and played on a high school championship team at the Academy of Holy Angels.
Minnesota coach Don Lucia says he's disappointed for Matson, who had worked hard to earn a spot in the lineup and was off to a great start to the season.
The Gophers have this weekend off before hosting Colorado College at Mariucci Arena on Dec. 13-14.
