Men's highlights

Sims, Michigan topple No. 4 UCLA

• MICHIGAN 55, NO. 4 UCLA 52: DeShawn Sims scored 18 points and Manny Harris added 15 to help Michigan upset No. 4 UCLA 55-52 on Thursday night in the semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic in New York. The Wolverines (3-0) will face No. 10 Duke in the championship game tonight. The Blue Devils beat Southern Illinois 83-58 in the first semifinal at Madison Square Garden. Darren Collison and Jrue Holiday each had 13 points to lead UCLA (2-1).

With his team trailing 48-46 with 4:16 left, Stu Douglass hit a long three-pointer to give Michigan the lead. Darren Collison was stripped on the other end, leading to a layup by Sims that made it 51-48 Wolverines.

UCLA cut the deficit to two when Josh Shipp made one of two free throws with 56 seconds left. After Michigan worked the shot clock down, Anthony Wright found Sims on a backdoor cut for an emphatic, two-handed dunk that gave the Wolverines a four-point lead with 28 seconds left.

In other Big Ten games, Iowa (3-0) beat The Citadel 70-48 on the road behind Anthony Tucker's seven three-pointers. ... Demetri McCamey scored 23 points as Illinois (3-0) defeated Vanderbilt 70-63. ... Jeramie Simmons hit two three-pointers in a 10-3 run at the outset as host Ohio State (1-0) never trailed in beating Delaware State 70-42. ... Stanley Pringle hit six three-pointers and scored 23 points as Penn State (2-0) matched a school record for long-range baskets in a game with 15 in beating Hartford 89-6 in the Philly Hoop Group Classic in State College, Pa.

In Big Ten women's action, Rae Lin D'Alie scored 13 points to lead Wisconsin (1-1) over Drake (1-1) 55-39 ... Danielle Gant scored 15 points and Takia Starks added 13 to help Texas A&M (3-0) beat Michigan 59-56 in Ann Arbor. .... FahKara Malone scored 17 points as Purdue (2-0) beat Portland 70-50 in West Lafayette, Ind.

Tech sets record

Trevor Cook scored a career-high 20 points as Texas Tech defeated East Central 167-115 in the Legends Classic in Lubbock, Texas. Cook was one of 10 players in double figures for Texas Tech, which easily eclipsed the old record for most points (128) scored by the Red Raiders.
