Three-star forward Eric Curry committed to Minnesota on Wednesday morning, capping the Gophers' three-person 2016 class. Curry, a 6-7 prospect from Memphis who currently plays at Southwest Christian Academy in Arkansas right now is a versatile wing / power forward type. He chose the Gophers over Arkansas and Iowa State.

I chatted with him on Thursday about his decision and his role with his new team. Here's part of our conversation:

What attracted you to Minnesota?

It wasn't difficult for me. I just picked Minnesota because when I went on my official visit, I just got along with them real good, the coaching staff and all the players. And I just feel like I fit in their system real good. The way the play, that's the way I play in the summer, so I feel like I'm going to come in and fit in right away with their system and have no trouble with it.

What stood out on the visit?

Probably the fanbase, the fanbase is crazy. I like it a lot.

Did fans say anything to you at the football game?

Yeah, they were screaming my name in the student section. It was pretty cool.

Minnesota only started recruiting you this summer. How did the coaches make such an impression so quickly?

They treated me like they just really wanted me and really needed me.

You're good buddies with Amir Coffey and he committed to Minnesota on Monday. Did that make you want to speed up your decision?

Well, I just took my time and went along with my pace. But yeah, he did have a big part of it, being that close, he did play a big part.

Your recruitment really took off this summer. How did you handle the change in attention?

It was pretty exciting for a while, when I first started getting the attention, I liked it a lot. But after a while it just got really tiring and very irritating. I took my time on it but I felt like I wanted to go to Minnesota so I just made that decision. It was time for it to be over because it was getting very irritating.

What did you see in your own game that changed in the last year?

Probably just being able to be versatile – just being able to come out on the perimeter and do things from there. Just not be one dimensional and stuff like that.

You didn't start playing organized basketball until sixth grade – fairly late for a lot of prospects. Do you feel like you're still growing a lot and finding your style?

Yeah. My confidence has increased tremendously, so I feel like I'm coming into my own. I'm a lot more confident now than I used to be.

What are you most excited about with Minnesota?

Just getting with all those guys and trying to make the program a very elite program.
