The Vikings did not hold their walkthrough this morning because coach Mike Zimmer wanted to do a more thorough breakdown of the film from Sunday night's Hall of Fame Game with his coaches. But Zimmer still met with reporters around lunchtime. Here are some highlights:

— Zimmer isn't worried about the struggles of rookie cornerback Trae Waynes against the Steelers. "I liked what I saw, a lot of things," he said. "Obviously, the penalties weren't good." Waynes was flagged once for pass interference and twice for defensive holding. But Zimmer thinks that the penalties will be a good thing for Waynes because they reinforced what the coach has constantly been telling the rookie in practice. "The whole time when I've been talking to him out here a lot, I said, 'You can't do that. That's a penalty,'" Zimmer said. "He'd say, 'Huh?' Like that. And I'd say, 'Yeah.' They call it differently in this thing than they do in college football."

— So why didn't veteran cornerback Captain Munnerlyn play Sunday night? "Well, that's a good question," Zimmer said. OK, go on… "We planned on him playing [in the nickel] on third down and we didn't get any in that series, so," he said. "And then I pulled the rest of the guys out." Fine, but the continual inactivity of Munnerlyn these past two weeks remains suspicious.

— Zimmer said outside linebacker Anthony Barr, who has been sidelined for about a week due to swelling in his knee, would have done the morning walkthrough if the Vikings held one and he added that Barr will do some individual work today. "We want him ready when we go to San Francisco."

— Zimmer felt the starting offensive line did a good job in both the run game and in pass protection. He said the lessons that group has learned in camp translated to game action. Asked about right guard Mike Harris, Zimmer called him a "fighter" and said, "I don't know if about 'job to lose,' but I think he's done a very good job since he's been in there." As for the young offensive linemen, Zimmer seemed pleased with how T.J. Clemmings and Austin Shepherd performed Sunday night. He was not complimentary of Tyrus Thompson, though, saying the rookie "has to do better."

— Finally, Zimmer said "it's not critical" that the Vikings carry a fullback on the roster this season. "They have to earn their spot just like any other position," he said. Zach Line missed the Steelers game with some kind of leg injury and second-stringer Blake Renaud blew his lead block on the team's failed fourth-down conversion Sunday. Regardless, the Vikings plan to use the fullback sparingly, which is why they parted ways with Jerome Felton.
