Twins manager Paul Molitor hadn't talked to Trevor May yet to see how he was doing one day after being plunked on the elbow last night. He knows there's only a couple days he can wait to see how May recovers before he needs to decide if he can make his next start.
If May can't go Thursday against the White Sox, the Twins will have to scramble. Ricky Nolasco doesn't appear to be an options because he'll be coming off of three days rest after pitching today at Class A Cedar Rapids. Besides, Nolasco might need another rehab start.
Tim Stauffer? Maybe. But Stauffer can't do much more than 50 pitches or so.
Mark Hamburger and Lester Oliveros started doubleheader games for Rochester yesterday. Hamburger was no helper, giving up five hits and five walks over 5.1 innings. Oliveros was scintillating, throwing four innings of one-hit ball with nine strike outs. Oliveros threw 61 pitches, but he's more of a reliever than starter. It will be interesting to see what the Twins do.
Also, Molitor plans to talk with hitting coach Tom Brunansky about a plan to calm down Kennys Vargas and get him to be a hitter again after looking anxious on Saturday while striking out four times.
Rick Nolasco is supposed to throw five innings or 75 pitches today for Class A Cedar Rapids.
