Aaron Thompson was optioned to Class AAA Rochester this morning, leaving the Twins camp roster at 29. Four more to go - and one more pitcher to go. There were no indications that the Twins would cut more players after today's game. The Twins might take a couple extra players to Detroit to have just in case there's a late injury. Will check on that later.
Also have to find out how Kyle Gibson's illness affects his next outing, as in, when it will occur. Did not see him at the park and there was no evidence of life in his staff.
As you have seen, I wrote about Aaron Hicks for today's paper. I think both sides erred in this one, but I don't blame the Twins at all for trading Denard Span and Ben Revere at the time, given the state of starting pitching in their organization at the time. What the Twins should have done was bring in a veteran center fielder as cover.
For those of you who clamor to have prospects called up, this is a cautionary tale of what happens when a kid is called up too soon. Maybe there's something to starting a prospect in the minors, letting him get on a roll then calling him up. Then again, it could just be based on the individual.
Everyone say farewell to Phill Miller, who's headed back to the Twin Cities for a few days before covering Openng Day in Detroit. I'm left here to turn out the lights and put this baby to bed.
