Grant Abrahamson and Emma Brodigan of Chanhassen have been named to the U.S. team that will compete at the junior world snowboarding championships in Yabuli, China, running Sunday through March 16.

Both are members of the G Team, based at ski and snowboard areas in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and compete in Alpine events.

Elle Gaudette of Maple Grove is part of a 16-athlete U.S. roster for the freestyle/freeskiing junior world championships March 22-April 4 in Valmalenco, Italy. Gaudette, who competes in aerials, finished second in the overall standings on the NorAm tour this season.

• The Gophers defeated visiting Washington 4-2 in men's tennis, getting the clinching point on Felix Corwin's 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win over Viktor Farkas at No. 5 singles. Corwin, paired with Leandro Toledo, also won his second doubles match.

• St. Olaf senior Dani Larson won her second women's pentathlon on Thursday in the MIAC indoor track and field championships at Concordia (Moorhead).

• Former Gopher Liz Podominick, a multiple Big Ten champion in the shot put and discus from 2005-08, received one of 23 grants from the John W. James Endowment fund, the USA Track & Field Foundation announced. The grants are aimed to support elite athletes competing at an international level. Podominick, of Lakeville, graduated in 2008.
