GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Gophers women's hockey team fell behind again Saturday. This time, however, their players were able to respond.

The second-ranked Gophers scored three unanswered goals, including two on the power play, for a 3-1 victory over No. 8 North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena and a series split.

"A great response for us tonight," coach Brad Frost said. "We gave up that quick one, but we responded well on the power play."

The Gophers (25-2-4, 18-2-4-2 WCHA) lost the opener 3-0 Friday, but they bounced back to avoid their first two-game losing streak since the end of the 2010-11 season. They had a 45-18 advantage in shots on goal, and this time they were able to solve UND goalie Shelby Amsley-Benzie.

North Dakota (16-11-3, 12-9-3-2) took a 1-0 lead Saturday when Josephine Jakobsen scored only 1 minute, 17 seconds into the game. The Gophers tied it on the power play at 12:42 of the first period, when Dani Cameranesi scored off assists from Lee Stecklein and Kate Schipper.

Early in the second period, Schipper gained possession off a North Dakota turnover behind its net, then fed a pass to Hannah Brandt in the slot. Brandt sent a one-timer past Amsley-Benzie for her 25th goal and the Gophers' first lead of the series.

Rachel Ramsey made it 3-1 when she scored at 12:11, also on the power play. Ramsey's shot from the point found its way through traffic and into the net.

Amanda Leveille made it stand up from there, finishing with 17 saves.
