GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The best women's hockey team on the road the past two seasons finally lost as a visitor.

Shelby Amsley-Benzie stopped all 25 shots she faced as North Dakota beat the No. 2 Gophers 3-0 on Friday night in a WCHA game at Ralph Engelstad Arena. It was the Gophers' first loss in a true road game in 57 games and just over three years.

The Gophers were 55-0-1 as visitors since a 4-2 loss to Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 13, 2012.

No. 8 North Dakota (16-10-3, 12-8-3-2 WCHA) broke open a scoreless game with a pair of goals late in the second period. Amy Menke, a sophomore forward from Shakopee, scored shorthanded on a breakaway at 16 minutes, 44 seconds. Tanja Eisenschmid had the lone assist.

Not long afterward, Josephine Jakobsen, a senior forward from Denmark, made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 18:13. For both players it was the 10th goal of the season.

UND's final goal came with eight seconds left in the third. Menke scored unassisted into an empty net.

"North Dakota played some really desperate hockey, and they deserved to win," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "We had a two-minute lapse there. When you're on the power play, you're hoping you're going to get one and then you give one up. Then they came right back and scored and we ended up on the penalty kill. They blocked a ton of shots and made it difficult to get to the net."

The Gophers (24-2-4, 17-2-4-2) had swept UND 5-2 and 5-0 in October at Ridder Arena and came into this series with a 19-game unbeaten streak (17-0-2). Their one previous loss was to Bemidji State, 1-0 on Nov. 1.
