Despite a strong second half rally, the Minnesota Swarm's modest two-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night at the First Niagara Center. The Buffalo Bandits took a 11-3 halftime lead in the National Lacrosse League game en route to a 15-12 victory at home.

Minnesota (2-2) closed within three goals twice late in the game, first at 14-11 on Logan Schuss' second power-play goal and then at 15-12 with 3:25 left on Callum Crawford's long shot.

Crawford led the Swarm with two goals and six assists for eight points, Schuss had five points.

• For the sixth year in a row, Minnesota State Mankato was picked to win the NSIC baseball title in the coaches' preseason poll. Mavericks senior catcher Nolan Johnson was selected the preseason player of the year.

• Glennis Roseboom, a 1993 alumna, and Robin Baker are the two finalists to be the athletic director at St. Benedict.

• The Gophers men's tennis team beat Wisconsin-Green Bay and Dartmouth, both by 5-1 scores, to improve to 5-1.

• Redshirt freshman Brad Neumann of the Gophers won his third consecutive 200-meter run at the Jack Johnson Classic at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse. His time was 21.77 seconds.
