Sidni Trotter's goal in the 23rd minute held up for Minnesota State Mankato in a 1-0 victory over Winona State in the championship game of the NSIC women's soccer tournament Sunday in Mankato.

The Mavericks outshot the Warriors 27-8, including 10-2 in shots on goal. Trotter, a sophomore defender, was chosen the tournament MVP.

The Mavericks (21-0-0) repeated as conference champions and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament. Central Missouri also got an automatic bid to the regional. Pairings for the NCAA regional will be announced Monday.

NSIC volleyball

• Minnesota Duluth is the No. 1 seed for the NSIC women's volleyball tournament. Defending national champion Concordia (St. Paul) is seeded second, followed by Wayne State and Southwest Minnesota State. The top four seeds will be host to first-round matches on Tuesday night.

Tyler Corrington of Hastings posted a score of 86.00 and won the saddle-bronc competition Sunday at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.
