The NCAA touted the highest big-school student-athlete graduation rates it's ever recorded Tuesday. The most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data, collected for student-athletes who entered college in 2007, show 84 percent graduated within six years.

The rate is up 2 percentage points from the class that entered in 2006 and includes gains in virtually every demographic.

The University of Minnesota bettered the national rate by 2 percent, posting a GSR of 86 percent. Since the NCAA began releasing GSR figures in 2005, Minnesota has improved its GSR by 19 percentage points.

The NCAA's overall report Tuesday shows Minnesota with a GSR of 89 percent, but the three-point discrepancy is due to an error in reporting. The NCAA, after it had already compiled its report, approved the corrected 86 percent figure, the university said.

Seven Minnesota teams posted a perfect 100 percent in these latest GSR numbers: Both men's and women's gymnastics and tennis teams, volleyball, women's soccer and women's golf. The men's basketball team increased its GSR to 83 percent, while the football team's GSR dropped to 66 percent, the U's lowest team score. The 66 percent is nine points lower than the national big-school football average of 75 percent.
