Nearly 9,000 runners in the Twin Cities Marathon could take some satisfaction in finding their name listed among Sunday's finishers.

Except one.

There, way up there near the top of the heap in 18th place, was "Runner Unknown." Hometown: "N/A," as in not available.

More than 28 hours after the competitor crossed the finish line in St. Paul, race officials revealed the runner's identity and explained the 1 in 8,848 hiccup.

"Looks like he was a pro runner who registered the weekend of the race," said marathon spokesman Charlie Mahler. "He was likely recruited [to enter] after we sent the bulk of the database to the bib number printer, so [he] had to sign up on-site … and then his name didn't get to the timers in time for results."

That also meant his name wasn't printed above his bib number of 59, a designation reserved for the fastest entrants.

There, that should clear things up. Oh, almost forgot: Stephen Kimando Muturi, 39, of Rochester, Mich., and a native of Kenya, covered the 26.2 miles in 2 hours, 24 minutes and 56 seconds.
