Opening night is one week away and the Wild has yet to decide on its starting goaltender.

There are two preseason games remaining. Coach Mike Yeo plans to start veteran Niklas Backstrom on Thursday in St. Louis and youngster Darcy Kuemper in Saturday's home game against the Blues.

"We're just going to evaluate every day," Yeo said. "I don't want to go in and say that one guy's got the edge over another right now. I want them focused on their game."

Yeo also has been pleased with veteran Ilya Bryzgalov, saying, "Everyone wants the net Game 1, and that's been evident with their practices, evident with their play in the games."

Bryzgalov is on a tryout. If Kuemper and Backstrom are healthy after the weekend and continue to perform well, it seems unlikely that with a 23-man roster that the Wild can sign Bryzgalov to a one-way contract and commit three spots to goalies.

Kuemper could be sent to the minors without waivers, but his play conceivably warrants being the opening-night starter. He stopped 32 shots in Monday's 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh and has had a strong camp since signing a two-year, $2.5 million contract on the eve of training camp.

"It's not a perfect situation by any means," Yeo said when asked if the Wild could keep three goalies. "I don't know that's where we would be steering toward, but I'm not going to say that it won't happen."

Josh Harding, suspended by the Wild for breaking a foot in a non-hockey incident, is expected back in a few months. The Wild has John Curry and Johan Gustafsson as its goalies in Iowa of the AHL. One option would be to see if Bryzgalov, 34, is willing to sign a two-way contract, but General Manager Chuck Fletcher has yet to broach that subject with him.

"I'm just having fun," Bryzgalov said. "Enjoy the practice every day here and enjoy my time here with the guys. All this maybe possible contract discussion, it's not for me. I have my agent, I have Chuck. I'm not worried about this at all."

After Wednesday's practice, Bryzgalov, wearing a black leather jacket, took a selfie for the Wild so fans could Photoshop themselves with the goalie for a chance to win a signed puck.

The Twitter contest stemmed from Monday's game in which Bryzgalov took selfies with fans through the glass as he sat on the bench.

"You know, I've got to do that," Bryzgalov said. "Fans came to have some fun. I've got to respect it. There were lots of kids out there, and I must do it for the kids."

Roster moves

The Wild recalled forwards Tyler Graovac, Zack Phillips and Joel Rechlicz, and defensemen Jon Blum and Justin Falk for Thursday's game. Winger Jordan Schroeder cleared waivers and was assigned to Iowa.
