San Antonio - Miguel Ibarra scored two goals, one in each half, as Minnesota United FC defeated the San Antonio Scorpions 2-0 on Saturday night at Toyota Field.

The Scorpions had an eight-match home unbeaten streak broken. They are 0-6-1 this season when their opponent scores first.

The Loons beat San Antonio 2-0 on the road to open the NASL season on April 12. And United wound up as the spring season champion.

This win could help the Loons with the fall season, too. The Scorpions (7-4-1) went into the match one point ahead of United (7-1-3) but now trail the Loons 24-22.

"It was an important game, we were fighting to stay on top of the table," Ibarra said.

He scored in the 22nd minute — on a cross to the far post — to give the Loons a 1-0 halftime lead. His second goal came in the 71st minute. He got behind the defense and when the goalkeeper Josh Saunders came out to challenge him, he got past him, too, with a move to his left and scored into an open net.

"I thought we did a great job of managing the game defensively and keeping our shape," Loons coach Manny Lagos said.

Matt VanOekel got the shutout on his birthday.
