Former University of Minnesota basketball assistant Kelly Roysland has been hired as the new women's basketball coach at Macalester College.

The official announcement will come on Monday.

Roysland, who is from Fosston, Minn., also played for the Gophers from 2004-07. She led the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game as a senior and played on three Minnesota teams that qualified for the NCAA tournament. After graduating from Minnesota. she was an assistant coach at North Dakota State University for two years before returning to Minnesota in 2010.

She will replace Ellen Thompson, who resigned at Macalester last month. Thompson was at Macalester for nine seasons and was twice named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year. Last year's team had a 5-20 record.

Roysland was not retained by new Minnesota coach Marlene Stollings, who was hired away from Virginia Commonwealth University when Pam Borton was fired at the end of last season. Mike Roysland, Kelly's father, is the men's basketball coach at the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
