La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.

Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Posted by: La Velle E. Neal III Updated: June 25, 2014 - 2:21 PM

Aaron Hicks, who was already at Class AA New Britain on a rehabilitation assignment, has been reinstated from the disabled list and officially optioned to the Rock Cats.

Hicks, who has recovered from a right shoulder injury that made it difficult for him to  throw.

In six rehab games, Hicks batted .238 with 2 RBI 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. It was during this stint that Hicks decided to return to switch hitting after spending just less than a month as just a right-handed hitter. It caps a controversial month for Hicks, who is searching for the things that once made him a top prospect in the organization

Also, Class AAA Rochester righthander Trevor May has been added to the roster for the All-Star Futures Game on July 13. May is 8-4 at Rochester with a 2.94 ERA. He is replacing lefthander Marco Gonzales  who has been called up to the Cardinals.
