Augustus questionable for Friday's game

It appears Lynx guard Seimone Augustus, who missed Thursday’s loss in Phoenix with knee bursitis, will be questionable for Friday’s home game with Washington. And, given the fact the Lynx have lost four of their last six games, that game vs. the Mystics is as close to a must-win as you’re going to get at this point in the season.

That said, Reeve said today she is in no rush to push Augustus back into the lineup. “Seimone has been playing hurt,” said Reeve, who indicated that Augustus has also been dealing with some related hamstring pain. “It is a very sharp pain,” Reeve continued. “She played through it for a couple games. But, with the back-to-back [Tuesday in L.A. and Wednesday in Phoenix], she tried to go, she warmed up, tried to get through it.’’

It is likely Augustus’ status for Friday’s game won’t be known for sure until right before game time.

Meanwhile, nearly the end of a stretch of six games in 10 nights, the Lynx return home for a very important game, one that might be played without Augustus. Despite having sustained some losses of late, Reeve is not about to push the panic button.  The team, Reeve said, is nowhere near crisis mode.

“If I could get on a megaphone and shout that to the Twin Cities I would,” Reeve said. “Being in the WNBA 14 years I know teams go through tough stretches. The key is getting through it. We know what it takes to win. Our players know what it takes to win. Stay the course. Stay away from the panic button.’’

That said, Reeve said she is looking for ways to get the team back in synch on defense, an area that has been lacking of late. And she is hoping the team can find a way to improve its rebounding while starting forward Rebekkah Brunson recovers from knee surgery.

That’s about it for now. I’ll get back to you after tomorrow’s game.
