It’s been 302 days since official practices began for the 2013-14 high school sports season.
Since then, 70 teams and 317 individuals have won state championships across 21 sports. And that doesn’t include participants in Minnesota State High School League-backed activities such as robotics, debate, speech and cheerleading.
The end is mere days away as four sports wrap up their seasons with state tournaments this week.
Clay target shooting wraps up its five-day meet Monday and Tuesday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
The boys’ and girls’ lacrosse tournaments run throughout the week, with quarterfinals Tuesday, semifinals Thursday and championships Saturday. All games are at Chaska and Chanhassen High Schools.
Boys’ and girls’ golf runs Tuesday and Wednesday at three courses: Pebble Creek (Class 1A), Ridges at Sand Creek (2A) and Bunker Hills (3A).
Baseball finishes up with the first two rounds Thursday and Friday at multiple sites: Chaska Athletic Park and Jordan Mini-Met (Class 1A); St. Cloud MAC (2A); and Midway Stadium and Siebert Field (3A). All championship games will be played Saturday at Target Field.
And with that, the season will officially come to an end. Cherish the lull. It starts all over again in 58 days.
