Michael Rand started RandBall with hopes that he could convince the world to love jumpsuits as much as he does. So far, he's only succeeded in using the word "redacted" a lot. He welcomes suggestions, news tips, links of pure genius, and pictures of pets in Halloween costumes here, though he already knows he will regret that last part.

Vikings have had an unprecedented run of first-round draft picks

Posted by: Michael Rand under Vikings Updated: May 12, 2014 - 2:41 PM

When the Vikings and Rick Spielman made a trade to get back into the first round on Thursday to take Teddy Bridgewater with the night's final pick, they hope they secured their QB of the future.

What isn't in doubt is that they also secured a place in recent draft history. They had two first round picks in 2012 and 2014; in between, they had three first-round picks in 2013.

We went back and looked at the past 25 years of NFL draft history, from 1990-2014. No other team during that span had as many as seven first-round picks during a three-year span.

In fact, it's only happened three times during that span that a team had as many as six in a three-year span (and yes, one of those teams was the early 1990s Cowboys, who stockpiled picks as a result of the Herschel Walker trade with the Vikings).

We're writing a little more about this for tomorrow's dead tree edition, but we found it interesting, at least.

It will be fascinating to see how all seven picks pan out, but it has the potential to be very good (after all, Dallas won three Super Bowls on the strength of some of those picks).
