10 potential Day Two targets for the Vikings

Posted by: Matt Vensel Updated: May 9, 2014 - 8:10 AM

The Vikings made two trades in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night, dropping back to get UCLA outside linebacker Anthony Barr and trading up for Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. So Rick Spielman probably didn’t need to hint to us late Thursday night that he might trade up again on Friday, when the second and third rounds of the draft will go down.

As of right now, Spielman and the Vikings have no second-rounder after the Bridgewater trade. But they have two third-round picks and enough ammo -- two fifth-rounders, a sixth-rounder and a seventh -- to move up into the second round if there is a prospect they really like.

Here is our list of 10 players the Vikings could potentially target on Day Two of the 2014 draft:

-- Terrence Brooks, S, Florida State: The Vikings could be looking to add a talented rookie to compete with Jamarca Sanford and a crowded group of safeties.

-- C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa: New offensive coordinator Norv Turner loves his two-TE sets and Kyle Rudolph is in a contract year.

-- Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska: The lanky corner will intrigue those who want to replicate the Seahawks’ championship formula.

-- Lamarcus Joyner, CB, Florida State: At 5-foot-8, he is on the smaller side for a corner, but he plays with a chip on his shoulder.

-- Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana: This would be a luxury pick, but Latimer is an intriguing prospect whose blend of size and speed would bring a different dimension to the offense.

-- Tre Mason, RB, Auburn: The Vikings are looking for a backup to Adrian Peterson and this pint-sized runner packs a lot of punch.

-- Keith McGill, CB, Utah: He’s another cornerback with length who could draw interest.

-- Xavier Su'a-Filo, G, UCLA: The Vikings could draft a guard to compete for one of the two starting spots. Su’a-Filo is said to be the best of the bunch.

-- Brock Vereen, S, Minnesota: The Vikings have done their homework on this local product.

-- Terrance West, RB, Towson: The record-setting small-school running back could potentially spell Peterson and possibly replace him if he develops as hoped.
