Tuesday's stage: A 97-mile stage from Cuneo, Italy, to Jausiers, France, with two major climbs: the 13.3-mile Lombarde pass and the 15.8-mile Bonette-Restefond summit.

Winner: Cyril Dessel of France won in 4 hours, 31 minutes, 27 seconds, beating France's Sandy Casar in second and Spain's David Arroyo in third. Each had the same time.

Yellow jersey: Frank Schleck of Luxembourg retained the yellow jersey for a second day. He leads Bernhard Kohl of Germany by 7 seconds and Cadel Evans of Australia by 8 seconds.

Today: The Alpine finale and the toughest stage this year: a 130.8-mile ride from Embrun to the famed L'Alpe d'Huez and over the punishing Galibier and Croix de Fer passes.
