Wild signs 3 centers, 3 others to contracts

The Wild signed minor-league centers Corey Locke, Peter Olvecky and Bryan Lundbohm, right wing Danny Irmen and defenseman John Scott to one-year deals Tuesday. The Wild also signed minor-league defenseman Brandon Rogers to a multi-year contract.

The Wild is close to re-signing restricted free-agent defenseman Clayton Stoner.

Richfield Reds clinch championship

The Richfield Reds clinched the championship of the American Legion Gopher Classic with a 3-2 victory over Bozeman (Montana) Tuesday at the Metrodome. Adam Seaman scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning on an error. Pitcher Tom DeRoma scattered three hits in five innings and also went 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Dylan Olson threw two innings to earn the save. Kyle Heger went 1-for-4 with a home, also for Richfield.

Saints nearly no-hit by Explorers

The only mystery left in the game Tuesday night was whether or not the St. Paul Saints would be no-hit by Nick Singleton. They got their hit, but not much else as they were blanked 11-0 by the Sioux City Explorers at Midway Stadium in front of 6,133. Singleton didn't give up a hit until two were out in the seventh inning. Tim Brown hit a single and Brent Krause followed with a single to center, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.

Salazar named Global Heroes captain

The Medtronic Foundation and Twin Cities Marathon Inc., announced that former Olympian and marathon world record holder Alberto Salazar will serve as the honorary captain of the 2008 Medtronic Global Heroes and will run in the Medtronic TC 10 Mile Oct. 5.

Thunder loses 'friendly' to Burnley

The Thunder lost its friendly exhibition game against England's Burnley Football Club 2-0 at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
