Here's hoping Wolves rookies get big minutes

The Timberwolves are in the midst of their most successful season in nearly a decade. They won’t make the playoffs, but attempting to finish above .500, while a modest goal, would still be a step forward.

On a lot of teams, giving more playing time to rookies at the end of the year would signal a sort of throwing in of the towel — a move that would be tough to reconcile with a goal of finishing the year strong.

For the Wolves, it’s just the opposite. We’ve seen enough of Gorgui Dieng and Shabazz Muhammad to believe that increased minutes over the final stretch, at the very least, would not be a detriment to winning.

undervalued? Tennessee was a No. 11 seed and had to play an opening-round NCAA game, but kenpom.com had the Vols as No. 11 in the country.

rescued SI.com has a story about the 1989 Princeton vs. Georgetown NCAA tourney game, billing it as “The game that saved March Madness.”
