Bemidji State fought back this game.

After losing 10-0 to the No. 1- ranked Gophers in women's hockey the night before, the Beavers scored three goals within two minutes early in the second period to get within a goal and stayed close thereafter.

But in the end, the Gophers won again, 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena. Hannah Brandt had Minnesota's first and final goals, giving her 18 this season.

Brandt's power-play goal gave the Gophers (28-1-1, 22-1-1) a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute of the first period.

That was it for scoring until the teams combined for seven goals in the second period.

Dani Cameranesi and Kate Flug scored 24 seconds apart early in the second to make it 3-0. Rachael Bona's power-play goal at 7:22 made it 4-0, and the Gophers appeared on their way to another rout over a Bemidji State team on a seven-game winless streak.

Not this time. The Beavers (9-18-3, 6-16-2-1) got right back in the game with three goals in 1:46. Alex Citrowske started the comeback at 11:09. Stephanie Anderson and Tess Dusik soon made it 4-3.

"It turned out closer than maybe it looked like it was going to be in the beginning of the second period," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "Get that four-goal lead and then give up two and then another right after — similar to yesterday, only they were scoring goals in a short amount of time and we weren't.

It stayed a one-goal margin for six minutes, until Brandt scored again with 1:06 left in the period. Brandt also had an assist in the game, giving her a team-high 49 points.

"I thought it was a good response … there in the end of the second to get back up by two and then lock it down in the third," Frost said. "We … were happy to get the three points. We're looking forward to heading to Wisconsin [next]."
