Washington County notes: Norby sets girls' basketball career points mark at Forest Lake

  • Updated: February 8, 2014 - 4:06 PM

With a 30-point effort in a 67-46 victory over Duluth East on Feb. 1, Forest Lake’s Bailey Norby broke the school career scoring record of 1,803 points, set by Katie Alsdurf in 2000.

A 6-foot-2 senior forward who has been a varsity regular since eighth grade, Norby had 1,806 points going into Friday’s game at Stillwater. In November, she signed a letter of intent to play at Creighton.

“She’s a true all-around student athlete,” Forest Lake coach Jen Wagner said. “She works hard on the court and in the classroom. [She] only gets better and better at what she does.”

Norby has an outside chance to reach the 2,000-point mark. Including the game with Stillwater, she has a minimum of eight games left in the season. She would need to average 24.3 points per game during the stretch to reach 2,000. Norby is averaging 15.1 points per game.

Worth noting

• The Woodbury boys’ hockey team broke a three-year victory drought against crosstown rival East Ridge with a 1-0 victory over the Raptors on Feb. 1. Royals goaltender Austin Macalus stopped all 31 shots he faced. Senior forward Jack Glaeser’s goal 30 seconds into the third period provided the margin of victory.

• Forest Lake sophomore goalie Kaylee Remington earned her first varsity shutout when she stopped all 35 shots she faced from Park of Cottage Grove in a 4-0 victory Jan. 30. Remington paced the Rangers to two victories in three games during a strong week, stopping 87 of 91 shots on goal.

• Tartan wrestlers Peyton Floyd, a junior 138-pounder, and Justin Berg, a sophomore at 145 pounds, both reached 100 career victories at the White Bear Lake Quadrangular on Jan. 31.
