After meeting with the school’s headmaster, Jason Sedlak rescinded his resignation and issued an apology.

St. Thomas Academy’s interim athletic director was back on the job Monday, just three days after he resigned the position.

Jason Sedlak met on Monday morning with St. Thomas Academy headmaster Thomas Mich and they talked through a situation involving Sedlak that took place on Friday, school spokeswoman Amy Lewis said.

Lewis would not comment on specifics. In an e-mail signed by Sedlak and sent to school staff, he apologized “for my actions on Friday morning. I let my emotions at the time and my passion for the mission of the school cloud my judgment.’’

Mich was out of town on Friday at an alumni function in Arizona, Lewis said. After he and Sedlak talked over the matter, Sedlak rescinded his resignation and sent the e-mail apologizing to school staff, she said.

“I accept full responsibility for my actions and hope that you can forgive me for my mistake and the pain it has caused the school and many individuals that I care about and consider friends,'' Sedlak wrote. "I have much more respect and admiration for Dr. Mich and [principal] Mike Sjoberg than I displayed on Friday.’’

Sedlak wrote that Mich and Sjoberg “are fully committed to making STA the best possible place it can be. This has been a very real learning experience for me and by accepting responsibility for what I have done, I hope to make it a teachable moment for our students.’’

Sedlak, a 1993 graduate of the school, had been the football team’s defensive coordinator until he took over as AD in September after Jack Zahr, 58, died of complications related to a stroke.

Zahr had spent his entire career at the private school, based in Mendota Heights, and helped lead it to nearly 40 state championships.
