No. 1-ranked heavyweight Tony Nelson lost his first match of the season, but the Gophers still easily beat visiting Northwestern 26-12 on Friday in a Big Ten dual meet at the Sports Pavilion.
Nelson lost 3-1 in overtime to No. 8 Mike McMullan, whom he defeated in the NCAA final last season.
Brandon Kingsley and Scott Schiller led the No. 2-ranked Gophers with pins at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively.
