NEXT OPPONENT: DETROIT (7-8)

The Lions have lost five of six and were eliminated from playoff contention Sunday. Coach Jim Schwartz is on the hot seat after that unexpected collapse.

OPPONENT WEEK 16

Giants 23, Lions 20

Josh Brown’s 45-yard field goal in overtime lifted the visiting Giants. Schwartz chose to play for overtime by running out the clock with 23 seconds and two timeouts left from the Detroit 25.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Calvin Johnson, wide receiver

A season after setting the NFL record with 1,964 receiving yards, Johnson has struggled with injuries. Still, his stats are Pro Bowl-caliber — 84 catches for 1,492 yards, second best in the NFL to Cleveland’s Josh Gordon.

OUTLOOK

The final game at the Metrodome features two weary teams with worn-out stars (Johnson and Adrian Peterson). The Dome has been a chamber of horrors for Detroit, though. Outlook: Horns up.
