The Gophers will share No. 1 heading into their winter break. St. Cloud State took over the No. 1 ranking in USCHO's poll on Monday, while the Gophers held onto the top spot in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine's poll.

St. Cloud State (11-1-2) collected 33 first-place votes and 978 points in the USCHO poll, compared to the Gophers' (12-2-2) 14 first-place votes and 958 points.

The teams each earned 16 first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll, however, the Gophers collected one more point (489 to 488) than St. Cloud State.

The Gophers' results against unranked Michigan State -- a tie and shootout loss on Friday, followed up with a victory on Saturday -- weren't enough to remain the unanimous favorite. St. Cloud State's sweep at unranked Minnesota-Duluth increased the Huskies' stock.

While the Gophers go on break until Jan. 3, the Huskies host No. 10 Union this weekend.

The two Minnesota programs are scheduled to face off on Jan. 24 in the first round of the inaugural North Star College Cup at Xcel Energy Center.
