Halftime: Kill taken off field after apparent seizure; Leidner replaces injured Nelson

Gophers coach Jerry Kill appeared to suffer another seizure on the sideline at halftime of today's game against Western Illinois and was taken off the field on a stretcher.

Gophers spokesman Paul Rovnak said during Kill has been taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

UPDATE: Gophers spokesman Chris Werle said on the Gophers' radio broadcast that "he's fine. He's just kind of resting."

Kill, who suffers from epilepsy, last had a seizure during a game in last year's regular season finale against Michigan State. That one also happened at halftime, but it came in the locker room.

Kill's last seizure on the sidelines came against New Mexico State in 2011.

This time, the Gophers players had left for the locker room, and the band was on the field performing its halftime show, but Kill was down on the sideline.

NELSON INJURED

Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson left today's game against Western Illinois in the second quarter with a right leg injury, and backup Mitch Leidner promptly led Minnesota on the go-ahead touchdown drive.

The Gophers took a 7-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Nelson limped off the field after a 13-yard rush early in the second quarter. He went to the sideline and appeared to be trying to stretch out the leg, riding the stationary bike at one point.

On Minnesota's next possession, Leidner led a 71-yard touchdown drive, highlighted by a 33-yard pass to tight end Maxx Williams on Leidner's first college completion. Leidner also carried the ball seven times for 34 yards on the drive, which was capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Rodrick Williams.
